A day in Red Rock Country

We started the day a bit earlier than I preferred. We left the house in Phoenix about 8a. My grogginess lasted until about 9a when the coffee from Carl Jr.’s finally made it into my system. We headed north on I-17 to a neat little place called Sunset point. Too bad it was 10:30a. :) Next point of interest was Arcosanti, an urban laboratory created by an Italian architect. He is seeking to create urban living spaces that can co-exist with nature without causing long-term problems in the environment. It was pretty interesting.

We made our way further north to Montizuma Castle, a village created in a large cove in a cliff, very neat. We then took a side trip to Jerome, an old mining town which during the copper rush had 15,000 people… it is built on the side of a mountain. What amazing views of the valley could be seen from up there.

Sedona is fantastic. I won’t be able to do it justice on this trip, I hope to return and spend more time there. It’s such a popular place, we couldn’t find any reasonable lodging. We found an Econo-lodge in Flagstaff that worked alright. Time to sleep. :)
