AD_EXT cable for Sound Blaster Audigy 2 zs Platinum
My friend Jon gave me a great sound card a while back, I’ve had in mind to use it for multi-track recording. I’ve got this nice dual-core that I’ll be using for video editing, and so I might as well use it for MT recording as well. The platinum comes with this handy front drive that sets in a 5.25″ spot, like a CD drive would. This gives easy access to some mic/line inputs, and a headphone output, perfect for recording. But I had one very sad problem. I didn’t have the cable to connect this drive to the sound card. They tell you not to use an IDE cable, as it could short something out. Upon further investigation, I found that you can use an IDE cable, but it has to be a 40 wire cable, not one of the newer 80 wire cables that are used with most DMA hard drives (higher than DMA-33). As long as you match pin 1 on each end, the cable should work just fine. I happened to have a cable still in the wrapping. I used it, and now have the front panel working. Maybe I’ll get around to that recording soon. Cheers!

Forum post that said you can use a 40 wire IDE cable.
Pin-out for those who are really into the details.
